About Us
There are 10 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 1 Doctoral Researchers and 2 Research Assistant in Science Education Department. The first graduates were given in 2013. In the department of Science Education, undergraduate and graduate programs (Thesis and Non-Thesis Master and Doctorate) are provided. In our department, academic staffs and students have opportunities to study abroad within the scope of Erasmus and Farabi mobility programs.
As of the 2024-2025 academic year, there are 85 students enrolled in the Science Education Bachelor's Programme, 37 students enrolled in the Science Education Master's Programme, and 9 students enrolled in the Science Education Doctoral Programme within our Department.
Mission
The primary objective of the Department of Science Education is to train teachers who develop positive attitudes towards teaching and possess professional skills in their field. In this context, students graduating from the Science Education Undergraduate Programme within our department are expected to set a good example for their own students in terms of their personal and professional lives, to keep abreast of innovations in their field for their own professional development, and to possess effective communication skills. Furthermore, this programme aims to train teachers who fully understand how students learn, are confident in using technology, possess problem-solving skills, and value human rights, democracy, and ethics. It emphasises critical thinking, personal reflection, and the professional development of teacher candidates.
Vision
To train highly qualified teachers who work with great determination to reach the level of contemporary civilisation outlined by Atatürk, who can best utilise changing education and teaching technologies, who have future-oriented goals, who embrace teamwork and can apply their knowledge in different fields; to cultivate highly qualified teachers who can understand the world as a whole in this era of changing knowledge, who are scientifically minded, productive, sensitive to national and global issues, and capable of generating solutions; to conduct scientific research at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the fields of general education and specialised teaching, both nationally and internationally; and to become a Department that can contribute to solving educational problems in our country and around the world.
